Filbert Steps' first foray into the movie business was the campy beauty queen road comedy, "Forever Fabulous", which the company financed and executive-produced. An early version of the film, then titled "Tiara Tango", premiered in June of 1999 at the Hudson Valley Film Festival in Rhinebeck, NY, two hours up the scenic Hudson River from Manhattan. Filmmaker Werner Molinsky flew in from Los Angeles to host the film to small but enthusiastic crowds.

The second stop for the film was the Austin Film Festival in Austin, Texas in October of 1999. The story, which takes place partially in the Lone Star State, and was well-received by local audiences, who were asked to give feedback in written surveys to aid in a subsequent edit of the film. The audience comments were extremely helpful, and helped guide the present version of the film.

"A bad fashion choice and a burnt head we're just a Greek tragedy, you and me," sighs Lorelei Daly (Jean Smart) to her daughter after the young beauty queen-in-training cooks her hair on hot rollers. Smart steals the show in this uneven but endearingly tacky dark comedy. Writer-director Werner Molinsky, an Australian native, has an eye for campy glamour and pays visual homage to various cinematic influences, including "Valley of the Dolls" and "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert." Robert Wagner delivers a brief but delightful performance as Lorelei's tango-ing, lounge singer boyfriend.
