Werner Molinsky (Writer/Director), a native Australian, admits that he ran away to New York (to attend NYU) because he was obsessed with the TV series RHODA. But it was only after he returned home that he discovered his writing talents while working for Estee Lauder in Melbourne, creating motivational sketches for employees and consumers to promote smart beauty practices. Discovered on a live TV segment of the Australian version of "The Tonight Show", Molinksy was hired on-air and became a staff writer and eventually segment producer for the show. This led to stints on the award-winning FAST FORWARD and ALL TOGETHER NOW, two of Australia's top-rated comedy shows. Molinsky was hired by the BBC and moved to London where he worked on pilots for Terry Wogan, and created a pilot for his own sitcom called MANORS. These successes spurred him on to Los Angeles where, after a year of development hell with a sitcom, he decided to concentrate his efforts on filmmaking and, in particular, creating women's roles as big and fabulous as the ones that had inspired him to be a writer. It was during this time that Molinsky met and fell head over heels for actress Jean Smart and followed her everywhere. Five years later, Molinsky and Smart teamed up for FOREVER FABULOUS, Werner's feature film debut as both writer and director. Other scripts include THE REAL STORY, THOSE HUDSON SISTERS, THE FISHERMAN & THE FAERIE QUEEN, LIFE WITH DORIS and LARNIE RUBENSTEIN'S VACATION. Although Werner prefers comedy, he is equally comfortable with drama, but states that his commitment is to stories with strong female leads and women of all ages a result of a lifelong obsession with Rosalind Russell, Liz Taylor, Doris Day, Jane Fonda, Tennessee Williams, Fellini and all things glamorous, dramatic and diva-like. |
